Love Or Madness

Love or madness?
Girl elopes second time in one year leaves parents in shock
Saqib hussain
Srinagar November 6:  an 18 year old year old girl eloped second time in a year with a boy belonging to the other sect. Huzeifa left her family in deep shock when they found out their daughter had eloped the second time in just one year. She had tried to run away last year as well but was brought back with the help of locals.
It was another day of mourning for the Bhat family in Lal bazaar when they found out that their daughter had left them forever. “Last time around we had brought her back as she wasn’t eligible to marry in the court given that she was under age, now it is futile to even think of that as she has already got married in the court”, said Mukhtar, the neighbor of the girl.   “They should have got her married to her relative last time  when they brought her back and today they wouldn’t be mourning”, said another neighbor Vilayat, “this is so shameful for the family and not to forget the community”, he added.
In Kashmir the state marred with conflict, Love between a girl and boy is seen as a taboo, and eloping a big crime, there have been cases of honor killings in situations like these in the past. And speaking on similar grounds her brother Adil said “I wish I could meet her, the first thing I would do is chop her head and then I would feel happy”, “she has played with our honor, I am not able to move out of my home and I fear somebody would taunt me for the crime committed by my cursed sister, I hope she dies of cancer”, he added.
Speaking on the issue the Mohalla committee president Bilal Ahmed said “this is a   matter of grave concern and rather than speaking about the girl’s parents it is better we devise plans to further stop such incidents”, it is noteworthy here to mention that the girl’s parents contemplated suicide when they were repeatedly taunted by the locality members and it was only due to the repeated requests by the president that they decided otherwise. Further speaking on the issue he said “we need to devise a body of both youth and old people to monitor the actions of both the young boys and girls in the locality”. The parents of both the elopes weren’t available for any comments.
